Privacy Policy
This policy governs Takeout’s stance on privacy during TestFlight beta testing. Modifications are likely to come in the form of clarifications, rather than changes in direction.
Summary
Takeout is designed so that your financial data lives only on your devices and in your personal iCloud account. The developer does not run a server that holds your data, does not collect analytics about your finances, and has no way to see what you record in the app.
What Takeout stores, and where
- On your device. Account names, balances, snapshots, projections, household configuration, and all other data you enter is stored in a local database inside the app’s sandbox.
- In your iCloud account. By default, Takeout stores an encrypted copy of your data in your iCloud account so that you can work with your data across devices — you have access to the same data on your iPhone and your Mac, and sync between them is fast and automatic. If you want to opt out of having your data synced through your iCloud account, you can turn off this option in Settings and continue to use the app fully locally on your device.
- Nowhere else. Takeout has no first-party server. There is no developer-controlled database, log pipeline, or analytics endpoint that receives your financial data.
What the developer can see
The developer cannot see your accounts, balances, household configuration, shared participants, projections, or any other content you enter into Takeout.
The developer can see information that Apple provides to every iOS developer about every iOS app, which you can review and limit in your iOS settings:
- App Store Connect / TestFlight metrics. Aggregate, anonymous statistics about installs, sessions, and crashes — no per-user identity, no app content.
- Crash reports. If you have opted in to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may forward anonymized crash diagnostics. These do not include your financial data. These reports are used by and helpful to the developer in making the app more stable for everyone.
What Takeout does not do
- No ads, no ad SDKs, no tracking SDKs.
- No third-party analytics.
- No selling, sharing, or licensing of your data.
- No use of your data to train machine-learning models.
- No background telemetry of your finances.
Sharing with other people
If you choose to collaborate with a partner on managing a household’s finances, that data is shared with them from your iCloud account, and only those people you explicitly designate gain any access. iCloud sync must remain on for shared households to maintain collaborative features.
Apple delivers the share through iCloud’s end-to-end encrypted CloudKit sharing. You can remove any participant from a shared household, or stop sharing it entirely, from inside the app at any time.
Children
Takeout is not directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect data from children.
Subscriptions
If you subscribe to a paid tier, your purchase is processed by Apple under Apple’s terms. The developer receives the standard App Store payout information from Apple (transaction count and payout amount per period); the developer does not receive your name, address, or payment details, and does not know which subscriber you are within the app.
Your controls
- Local-only mode. Set Storage Mode in Settings to Local only to keep your data off iCloud entirely.
- Export. Use Settings → Export to copy your data out at any time. Exports are encrypted by default; you can choose to export unencrypted at your discretion.
- Delete. Uninstalling the app removes the local copy of your data. Switching Storage Mode to Local only stops new data from syncing to iCloud but does not retroactively remove data that has already synced. Removing data that has already synced to your iCloud account currently requires Apple’s iCloud account-management controls (per-app data management or signing out of iCloud); Takeout does not yet expose an in-app affordance for purging synced data.
